Background

Stroma Building Control (formerly Greendoor) is very experienced in the provision of the Approved Inspector Service within the hotel sector, particularly helping a national hotel provider develop their portfolio around the country, which predominately involves the re-development and conversion of unique and sometimes challenging existing buildings. Having worked with this valued client for some time, we have adjusted and tweaked our working practices and systems to meet our client’s requirements with efficient technical support and accurate responses to ensure they are provided with a consistent approach. To achieve this, we appoint a dedicated Client Manager to help avoid possible misinterpretations and communications and ultimately provide a dynamic and fluid Approved Inspector service.

Outcome

We have recently been involved in the redevelopment and conversion of an existing 5-storey building on a restricted city centre site into a hotel. Bedrooms were created around the existing single staircase with associated ancillary accommodation in a basement. The scheme warranted a fire engineered approach due to its complexity and, through close liaison with the Design Team and local Fire Service, we were able to help produce a safe and functional building on a restricted and complicated site.
