Background

Stroma Building Control have worked on a number of public buildings, including high end art galleries within Central London. Due to the predominately open plan nature of the product our clients envisage, we have to provide a proactive approach in helping them achieve their goal in producing a building which meets their brief and needs. We also have to create a safe environment for members of the public to visit, incorporating suitable means of escape and fire safety provisions to comply with current legislation. From this experience we have adapted our systems to help our client’s meet their requirements. We provide efficient technical support and accurate responses and offer a single point of contact to avoid any misinterpretation/communication and thus provide an effective and fluid Building Control service.

Outcome

We have recently been involved in the redevelopment and upgrading of a listed building to create a high profile art gallery in the centre of London. The client’s wish was for a total open plan including the staircases to a basement gallery, which also included open viewing points down the staircase and through the inclusion of strategically placed fire curtains and fire alarm. This, coupled with close liaison with the Fire Service and architect, we were able to help deliver what the client envisaged, whist also being sensitive to the historical nature of the building.
